The Emperor of Portugal at Stadshotellet

Västerbottensteatern, Skellefteå

Jan and Kattrina are probably poor, but they and their beloved daughter Klara Fina Gulleborg have their cottage! She has been a sun and a joy ever since she was born seventeen years ago, quick-witted and beautiful and with an indescribable turn. When the new master wants to pay for the land where their cottage is located, Klara-Gulla offers to travel to Stockholm to earn what is needed.

And yes, she sends the money, but she herself stays in town. At home in Askedalarna, the gossip starts about how she actually got that money together. But Jan interprets the signs and creates his own truth about what happened, the daughter has been elevated to empress - and thus he is an emperor! He stops going to work, Kattrina has to support them both, every day he waits on the bridge for his daughter's wonderful return. When Klara-Gulla returns after fifteen long years, nothing will be as it was intended ...

In Västerbottensteatern's performance, it is Jan and Kattrina who together tell about what happened, about the hearts that came to life and throbbed with sadness and longing. It is about parents and children, about leaving and coming back, about reconciliation and guilt, and about a love that is so great that it both carries and destroys.

Ela Baumann, who did the choreography for the summer theater Tre Kärlekar is back and together with Caj Nyqvist they create the movement's movement and music. On stage are the radar couple from Släktkalaset, Mikael Lindgren and Anna "Pluck" Söderling.
