The mothers

Stage 2, Sara Kulturhus, Skellefteå

They are nurses, teachers, shop and restaurant staff. They are the mothers who have carried their children closest to their hearts. And they are the mothers who have been forced to experience the worst a mother can experience, when they are awakened in the middle of the night by police who have told them that their children have been murdered. It's about violence and struggle - but most of all about love.

We meet mothers living in Sweden's poorest and most vulnerable areas, the so-called "no-go zones". In a direct address, in a strong visual staging, the audience experiences a kaleidoscope of destiny. Four actors convey voices from mothers who have lost their children in shootings and those who struggle not to do so.

The show is based on award-winning host, journalist and author Alexandra Pascalidou's hit book "The Mothers". Among other things, she has been awarded the European of the Year award, awarded by the Swedish PEN Club and The Global Inspiring Women Worldwide Award 2018.
