Wendy and Peter Pan

Medlefors Hotel, Skellefteå

A newly written musical performance for all ages, freely adapted from J.M. Barrie’s classic adventures about the magical Neverland. Playing as summer theater 2023 in Medleforsparken, Skellefteå.

Wendy is growing up and is eager to escape the confines of her childhood home. She feels trapped and longs for connection. Her way to deal with her family situation is by taking care of her smaller siblings and to entertain them with stories about the defiant figure; Peter Pan, who says he can never grow up. Despite her obvious connection with her younger siblings, Wendy seeks new challenges but, her anxious parents are bothered by her nightly walks and try to stop her from hanging out with the youth gang that hangs out on their street.

One evening, when Wendy is looking after her siblings, the exciting fantasy world they fill their lives with suddenly come to life. Together with the flying Peter Pan, they are thrown into a dizzying adventure of life and death.

In the performance, just like in Barrie’s story, absurd humor is mixed with heartbreaking drama, but the play touches upon even sorrow and loss. What  really hides under the perfect facade that exists in Wendy’s childhood home? A story about growing up or refusing to do so, about challenging your own fears, but also about the fact that a painful parting may be necessary to find your path. Above all, it is a story about giving in to your wildest imagination.

In Wendy and Peter Pan, directed by Annika Kofoed, the stage is filled by a large ensemble cast, featuring a mix of actors and dancing musical artists. A popular return for the audience, that has previously seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame, is P-O Nilsson’s catchy soundtrack, that remains with the audience long after they have left the theater.
