Skellefteå Summertime Music & Life Festival, Skellefteå

The sing-along on "My Hometown" will break new records on Friday night, when the band returns to Skellefteå and Summertime! Welcome home THE WANNADIES!

The Wannadies were already revealed before Skellefteå Summertime 2021 which was moved to 2022 due to Corona. But as one of the main acts for Skellefteå Summertime 2022, The Wannadies are now returning to the stage and Skellefteå x 2. The gig at Skellefteå Summertime on Friday 5 August will be the only festival gig in Skellefteå with Wannadies this summer.

Festival general Gunnar Karlsson at the Artist Office is very pleased with the booking - With a fairly solid history together with the band, I feel both joy and pride to be responsible for the first festival stop that the band makes at an incredibly long-awaited reunion, says Gunnar.
- It is a booking that both ties the sack together and opens up for something completely new, together with both the band and Skellefteå Summertime Music And Life Festival!

Feels great fun!

- It's 32 years since our very first gig; the Nicaragua gala at Norrhammarskolan in Skellefteå - We felt it was time again! /Pär Wiksten The Wannadies

"Can't Kill the Music". - Rarely has a pop song had such a fitting title as when The Wannadies released their first single in 18 years - in the middle of a pandemic that laid a wet blanket over the music world. Never before has the uplifting, optimistic music of the Skellefteå band been so much needed. In his hometown Skellefteå, the band will have the honor of doing 2 gigs in 2022 not only the new festival Summertime Music And Life Festival but also Sara Kulturhus on Saturday, April 9, 2022. That the hometown means a lot, no one has doubted after hearing the super hit "My Hometown".

The Wannadies broke through in the 90s as one of the leading names in the Swedish indie wave. With songs such as "My Hometown", "You and Me Song", "Shorty" and "Hit", the band reached far beyond the borders of their home country and enjoyed great success in the UK and Japan.

"You and Me Song" has appeared on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet as well as in a long series of commercials and the local anthem "My Hometown" interpreted by artists from Annika Norlin in Säktts translation via child star Oscar Stembridge to the young Skellefteå artist Mika Johansdotter's fresh version. In 2002, The Wannadies' sixth and to date last album "Before & After" was released. It is also in connection with the new release of the album that the new single has been released. A release that also caused the band to make the decision to merge again, but this is not really a reunion. The Wannadies have always been as much a family as a band. For the past 18 years, they have mostly been the former. Now it's also a band again. During 2020-2021, they have prepared in the rehearsal room and felt both old and new material. So who knows, the new single may soon be followed by more from The Wannadies. Because after all; "You can not kill the music, pop the rock, can not make a good thing stop".

So welcome home The Wannadies!
