Vindvaka

Stage 4, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå

In choreographer Virpi Pahkinen's new work, the changing water is at the center of the movements. Pahkinen has co-created the work for four dancers on a Sami theme, in collaboration with Sami artists.

Multi-awarded Virpi Pahkinen is one of the Nordics' leading choreographers and solo dancers, and has worked on dance stages in nearly fifty countries. Virpi Pahkinen's choreographic language is characterized by the archaic, mythological as well as science fiction. In dance, she has explored the time of man and nature, as in the works Deep Time and Black Rainbow. Her dance figures have a meditative power and form signs that carry dreams.

In the new work Vindvaka, she takes her dancers on a journey into the hydrosphere, into the transformations of water. Movements can appear snow-quiet and winding, or roaring and flowing, and then land in the mysteriously organized in a still clarity of a snow crystal.
