It starts in you

Stage 4, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå

Frida Selander is back with a new performance and a new album, where she examines the relationship between herself and her surroundings. Being human is complicated and many of us have gone through crises and finally realized that the only person who can actually change is himself. It starts in you.

With her warm address and her distinctive voice, Frida meets us with her songs and stories. The autobiography is interspersed with philosophy, science, spirituality, and poetry. Seriousness mixed with humor. Alone on stage, with electric guitar, harmonica, and piano, she sings with the disarming vulnerability we've come to love so much.

The music runs like a common thread through the performance, which moves in a borderland between storytelling tradition, pop music, and dance.

The production is developed in residence at the Nordic Storytelling Center and together with the choreographer and director Björn Säfsten, she goes in-depth regarding the relationship with her own self. How and why do we react the way we do? What happens when we turn our gaze inward? Do we like what we see or do we want it to be different? Can we give the world more love if we start by liking ourselves more?

Frida twists and turns life, the narrative format, and the music. She talks about trust, acceptance, and the enormous power of love. This performance is about Frida, but it is also about us. She says: "There's only one way to hold on, and that's to let go." Do you dare? It starts in you.

Press Clips:
Without Selander's familiar leaps and recurring flashes of self-detachment and humor and the interludes of newly composed songs, sung in a voice that carries the deepened sorrowful beauty of the reborn, we would be doubtful. But of course, we are led to the clearing where there is forgiveness and liberation. What has been affected also leads to healing and hope and the concerned audience can no other than give the equally concerned Frida Selander a standing ovation. VK 221113
