The evening begins with the newly composed piece Fractured Time by Anna Clyne. During six turbulent minutes, the composer examines the experience of time in a state of fever, clairvoyance and anxiety.

Rays of comfort are then found in the as beautiful as brutal violin concerto that Benjamin Britten, aged 25, composed in 1939 - in the midst of the burning Second World War and a wildly blooming romance at the same time.

Shostakovich's first symphony was also composed in a time of political chaos. The year was 1925, and for the 19-year-old Shostakovich, the magnificent symphony – which was his graduation exam at the Leningrad Conservatory – meant that he became world famous.

Soloist Ellinor d'Melon
Violinist Ellinor d'Melon lives in Spain but comes from Jamaica and has Cuban roots. According to herself, she was very lazy as a child, which resulted in her learning to play the violin before she could walk. Despite her young age, she has already worked with conductors such as Zubin Metha and Jamie Martin, and performed in concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In Sweden, you have also been able to hear her together with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra.
