Marathon reading - Hjortronlandet

The City Library, Skellefteå

Time for marathon reading again.

Next up is Sara Lidman’s second novel, Hjortronlandet. The book, which became a big hit on Norran’s insider pages when it came out in 1955, is a serious and burlesque story about colorful people and families.

We get to know Claudette, Franz and Frida, Märit, Nordmarkarna and Skrattars. Characters who in the novel become diverse human beings, made up of good and bad, of wretchedness and sometimes a little greatness.

Those who read during the day are Skellefte residents, each with their own dialect, reading about ”paltkok” and pneumonia. About love, loan debts and childbirth.
