Fredrik Benke Rydmans Master of Dance
Stage 1, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå
A dance stand up by and with Fredrik Benke Rydman.
After 28 sold-out performances in Stockholm, Master of Dance goes on tour in the spring of 2024! Sweden's most famous doldis steps out of the shadows and gives himself the place he deserves. As the Master of Dance. After many years as a dancer, choreographer and director, it's time to share all the secrets from the dance world.
The audience is treated as budding dancers and during the performance Benke will create a unique choreography following instructions given by the audience. But calm in the pews, no audience dancing on stage. Only Benke does that.
The script is written by Martin Luuk and Benke Rydman. With humor, seriousness and strong visual choreography, the audience is treated to a different experience.
"I play with the form of a masterclass, to which the audience is invited. I tell and show my way of dancing/choreographing, so to speak, giving my tips and secrets from a long dancing life. I talk about artistic problems that I struggle with. From the fact that earlier in my life I was obsessed with body control and control over an entire room and maybe even the work. But that I now artistically strive for more freedom. I praise the freedom in the masterclass and highlight the importance of being free in art. In the performance, however, it emerges that on a personal level I still have zero insight and seek control almost desperately. In that clash, the idea is that a discussion about where the line lies should arise with the audience." says Fredrik Rydman.
From the press:
"The premiere audience is rolling with laughter"
DN
"I've rarely laughed so much at a dance performance, so it's equal parts theater and dance, seasoned with lots of humor."

"Egocentric Reflective Dance Stand-Up"
SvD
"When he dances there is no time. The room disappears and it's just him, Master of Dance, Fredrik 'Benke' Rydman."
