Fredrik Söderberg - The adventurous heart

Over the years, Fredrik Söderberg (Stockholm) has made a name for himself for his large-scale and intimate paintings in exquisite colors. Söderberg's solo exhibition for Skellefteå Konsthall shows both older and completely new image suites, where the central thing is a kind of mapping of our history in the gray areas and a search for a deeper insight into human behavior. For a long time, the artist has been interested in various reforms, individuals and ideologies that were leading in the political and religious environments of the early 20th century. Currents, which can then be found both in obscure groups in Germany as well as in the alternative groups that emerged in the USA during the 1960s in parallel with popular culture.
Söderberg's still image world is contrasted by light and dark as well as the beautiful and the horrific, where human complexity is consistently in focus.The symmetrical compositions and the figurative paintings are both harmonious and disharmonious at the same time and evoke a strong visual experience that opens up existential questions about aesthetics and morality, how human drive and passion in the wrong context can threaten democracy.
