The girl from Rekansjö

Boliden, Skellefteå

NOTE! In Swedish

A story about the arduous life many people in the mountainous region of Lapland led in the early 1900s. About the shame of having a child who was "different." About a family's refusal to give up one of their children and, perhaps most importantly, about a mother's love.

Early 1900s. Ida Kristina and Johan Amandus move with their two daughters to a homestead in Vilhelmina parish. Winters in the mountainous region of Lapland are long and relentless, and summers are far too short. Then their third child, Edit Hermine, is born. Edit Hermine turns out to be "nalta eljest" (a bit different), and shame moves into the small house in Rekansjö.

A story about the arduous life many people in the mountainous region of Lapland led in the early 1900s. About the shame of having a child who was "different" and about mental healthcare in the mid-1900s.

A performance by Åse Maruritzdotter Westin and Anna-Karin Kask.
