NIls Schillmark was born on 26 June 1745 in Drängsmark. As a young man, Nils certainly showed his talent to the vicar Pehr Högström and his wife Katarina Fjellström. In 1784, Nils settled in Lovisa, a town in eastern Finland. Here he was active and traveled around the surroundings as a portrait painter, but also took other assignments on the larger farms.
