The Dairywoman From Burträsk

Skellefteå museum, Skellefteå

THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD IN SWEDISH.

Ulrika Eleonora Lindström was the woman behind Västerbottensost cheese and the dairywoman that Sandra Marklund, an educator at Skellefteå Museum, talks about in this lecture.

In the 19th century, being a dairywoman was one of only three educational opportunities available to women. Through historical documents, we follow Ulrika Eleonora’s life from childhood to old age in a society undergoing modernization. With hard work, the support of the Agricultural Society, nearly an entire village, and the help of another successful yet somewhat forgotten woman, she achieved lasting fame.

NOTE! The story will be told at Nordanåteatern on Wednesday and at the Café Stage at Nordanå on Sunday. Free admission, but seating is limited!

Part of the 2024 Storytelling Festival. You can view the full program here: https://vasterbottensteatern.se/berattarfestivalen/program/
