What Was Hidden in the Envelope? A Story from World War II

Skellefteå museum, Skellefteå

THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD IN SWEDISH.

In 1941, vehicle owner Gust. Jonasson Hammarfält receives an envelope. It is wartime. He is a haulier, working, among other things, on preparing the ice road between Umeå and Finland for the export of goods. But the ice road gives way, and trucks fall through the ice.

Many years later, Jörgen Andersson, an archivist at Skellefteå Museum, sits with the same envelope. Before even looking at its contents, he begins to investigate who this "Gust. Jonasson Hammarfält" might have been. "What was hidden in the envelope" is one of many stories from World War II and how it was experienced in Västerbotten.
