Give Hope!
Stage 1, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå
In a world where hopelessness and threats to democracy seem to follow one another, we need hope! As an evening program during the Human Rights Days, you are invited to a free concert on Stage 1 at Sara kulturhus!
We will meet Concord Nkabinde, a South African musician, composer, and music teacher who has undertaken several international projects. Notable collaborations include Johnny Clegg, Miriam Makeba, Vusi Mahlasela, and Nils Landgren.
Swedish-born Camilla Griehsel is one of Ireland's most versatile and passionate singers. Her latest project, Mamasounge, is a tribute to songs from distant lands that transcend cultural, temporal, and geographical boundaries, showing that the true essence of a song can be deeply felt, regardless of the language in which it is performed.
Saara Hermansson, now Kåge resident, works as a craftsperson, musician, and language teacher, and has discovered her Sámi heritage through music. She will participate with her own joiks in soulful encounters with the rhythmic world of South African music.
The group Lejonmyren was formed in connection with the 100th anniversary of Sara Lidman in 2023 and made its first appearance at Sara Kulturhus, performing music by Abdullah Ibrahim, who is also a South African musician.
A children's choir from Church of Sweden in Skellefteå will also participate, along with choir and instrumental students from the Skellefteå Cultural School.
The concert lasts 90 minutes without an intermission and is free of charge. However, a ticket is required; see ticket information below.
The concert is made possible through collaboration between the Swedish Church in Skellefteå, the national Swedish Church, Skellefteå Municipality's Culture and Recreation Department.
