Conversation: How do you talk to children about disasters?

Trappscenen, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå

During the spring, Västerbottensteatern will be performing the play “Vid arken kl 8” (At the Ark at 8), which tells the story of three penguins who travel with the ark when the great flood comes. It addresses existential questions related to the climate crisis, humanity and hope for the future in a humorous and playful way.

Stories about the flood and the ark are found in most cultures. This shows the human need for stories to handle and process disasters and crises. In this conversation, we listen to Lillemor Skogheden, director, and Mats Söderlund, author, who reflect on how we can talk to children and young people about the fate of the future.

The conversation is aimed at an adult audience.

Mats Söderlund is a writer, poet and social debater. He has published around twenty books, including the Ättlingarna trilogy, and has received numerous awards and scholarships for his work. He often lectures on literary creation, climate and gender issues and also runs the Climate Academy, a platform for using artistic methods in sustainable transition processes.

Lillemor Skogheden is a director, narrator and educator at Västerbottensteatern and has directed the performance Vid arken kl. 8
