Space, gentle weather, and a powerful finale

The concert opens with a short piece by the Bulgarian‑British composer Dobrinka Tabakova. Orpheus’ Comet sets a feeling of space and motion in play. It is followed by Halcyon Days by Britta Byström, a work that lets its sonorities linger. The title refers to a period of calm and mild weather. The soloist is flutist Laura Michelin from Norrköping, one of Sweden’s most acclaimed young musicians.

The second half features Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, one of his most frequently performed works. The music begins dark and restrained but grows step by step into a powerful, triumphant finale ,a chance for the orchestra to explore its full range, from the intimate to the grand and majestic.
