In the stillness of a winter evening, four musicians and storytellers come together to give voice to the songs, stories and sounds of Christmas. Traditional folk music and storytelling unite in a warm and heartfelt evening, where the darkness of December gives way to the light, and the light finds its voice. Saturday 5 December at 6.00 pm in Sankt Olovs Church.

In the December Night is a Christmas concert rooted in the traditions of storytelling and folk music. Here, Christmas carries the scent of spruce branches, fresh snow and memories of those who came before us. Audiences will encounter melodies passed down through the centuries, songs once sung in kitchens and mountain pasture huts, and stories that have accompanied generations through the long, dark winters.

The concert brings together four artists, each carrying their own part of this cultural heritage. Ulrika Bodén brings the traditional songs of Ångermanland to life with a voice that has won admirers far beyond the borders of her home province. Thomas Andersson, last seen on our stage in När vår herre gjorde Bygdsiljum och allt det andra, is a folk musician and storyteller from Västerbotten who brings stories to life as though they have always belonged in the room.

At the pump organ is Markus Falck, known from the influential folk music group J. P. Nyströms and, more recently, from his appearance here with the ensemble WAO in spring 2026. He is a musician who has left a lasting mark on the Swedish folk music scene. Joining them on the nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle) is Niklas Roswall, a world champion on his instrument, whose playing combines brilliance with warmth and passion.

The concert takes its title from I decembernatt, a poetic melody by fiddler Sören Johansson from Dorotea. The atmosphere of this piece runs throughout the entire performance: the crisp winter air, the deep darkness and the light that always finds a way through.

The programme also includes the Christmas Gospel in a translation into the local Burträsk dialect.

A beautiful moment of peace and reflection amid the bustle of the Christmas season.
