What do we actually see when we look at a landscape? In the exhibition Nature as Conception two of Skellefteå's most influential artists meet - a dialogue across generations.
By bringing together the groundbreaking life's work of Sture Meijer (1931–2023) and the contemporary gaze of Karin Nordgren, the idea is revealed that nature in art is never a copy of reality – but a construction to explore humanity.
For sixty years Sture Meijer created a distinctive visual world in the borderland between realism and surrealism. His landscapes function as metaphysical spaces where silence is charged and nature becomes a mirror for existential loneliness and reverence. Karin Nordgren continues with a sensitivity to the fleeting and the mutable.
Together they create worlds that we not only observe, but step into. The exhibition is a reminder of art's ability to give shape to what cannot be said in words, where nature becomes the language for the great existential questions of our time.
About the artists:
Sture Meijer (1931–2023) held a unique position in Swedish art life with his studio in Kåge as his base. The exhibition presents works from the extensive Meijersamlingen, a donation to Skellefteå municipality.
Karin Nordgren (b. 1973) is based in Skellefteå and was educated at Konstfack and KMD in Bergen. Her artistic practice moves between sculpture and painting with inspiration from geology and space.
