Ellen is 8 years old and good at a lot of things. But not at falling asleep. Why is it so difficult? The Sleep Hunters is about the difficulty of finding the inner calm that is often needed for sleep to come. Whether you are small or big.

It usually takes a really long time for Ellen to fall asleep. But tonight will be different, says dad. He has thought of everything. The bedroom is aired out, and the temperature is just right. The pillows are fluffed, and her favorite pajamas are on. Dad has even arranged a live band to play just the right music to make her feel wonderfully sleepy. Incredible! But still, it doesn't work. Because Ellen can't stop thinking about everything she'd rather do than sleep. She wants to dance, rearrange her room, or maybe best of all: eat popcorn and watch a movie. Furthermore, there’s one more thing that troubles her. Something Ellen should tell dad but finds hard to talk about: that thing that her best friend Wilma wrote but which no one is allowed to read.
