Te-ritual

Free entry but a ticket is required. ARRIVE ON TIME! No complimentary tickets are released 10 minutes before the event starts!

The artist duo aghili/karlsson welcomes you to a ritual with herbs, storytelling, and conversation.

aghili/karlsson conducts recurring rituals as part of the duo's work around cultivation and healing practices. In the duo's garden, they grow herbs that hold the potential for bodily healing and emotional memory work. Through rituals open to all interested, femininity is examined and practiced as an aesthetic, method, and foundation for community. Femininity as potential for sisterhood (where siblings of all genders can participate), meaning a system based on cooperation and support, rather than competition and dominance. In the rituals and the tea served, aghili/karlsson imbues the love and care that they believe art needs to accentuate right now. Instead of illustrating the polarization inscribed in our bodies, the duo aims to create new, shared experiences that strengthen our sense of belonging and solidarity with others.

For the ritual at the Storytelling Festival, they bring herbs with stories about exile, knowledge exchange, and ancestral traditions. All participants sit in a circle and serve each other tea in a ritual initiated and led by the artist duo. Conversation is welcome but not forced. Welcome!

aghili/karlsson is the collaboration between Nasim Aghili (artist, director, and playwright) and Björn Karlsson (artist, set designer, and gardener). They work with visual and performing arts and have created works in public spaces, performance shows, and exhibitions together for over 15 years. Their work often takes the form of conversations revolving around experiences of living in various forms of exile and the need to mourn and heal. They are based in Stockholm and in the countryside outside Södertälje and often work in international collaborations based on radical cultivation, decoloniality, and the aesthetics of sisterhood.
