## We are mammals
A sort of musical about being human in our time, based on music by Annika Norlin (Säkert!).
About being a little on the side, a little off, a little skewed. About uncharming everyday situations with spaghetti under the socks and fish fingers for lunch boxes, about juggling everything that needs to happen at the same time – toddlers/teenagers, career and wanting a well-functioning adult life. About the relationships that creak and clutter. About being in the middle of life, between young and old, noticing how one ages while also seeing one’s parents get old, sick, and die.
About being contrary. About everything behind the polished surface, about wanting to stretch the effective norm society. About the skinless and unpolished and about the mystique of everyday life – spaces that suddenly open up, abysses that become visible. About being sensitive, alive, frail, and scared. About being human in our time.
**Annika Norlin's musical universe meets Ada Berger's sharp contemporary analyses in this skinless and unpolished performance about being human in our time.** The performance is a co-production between Västerbottensteatern and Riksteatern.
We live in a time where the view of humanity is very mechanical. She is supposed to be smooth, functional, and useful, easy to understand and easy to fix if she breaks. In this performance, we get to experience something beyond utility and function. Here, there is room for the complex, the mystical, the incomprehensible, the unconscious, and the enigmatic that we have pushed aside and chased away. Here, everything should fit – even the imperfect, that which is broken, clipped, and fragile.
The meeting between Ada and Annika, two relevant, writing individuals, is a new and unique collaboration that lays the groundwork for an exciting performing arts experience as Ada Berger, with her sense of humor, existential questions, and sharp contemporary analyses, has taken on writing the script based on Annika Norlin's musical universe. Annika's music and song lyrics have never before been dramatized for the theater stage, and in We are mammals, the audience finally gets to encounter her sincere, comedic, and revealing texts in a performed form.
For sound design and music arrangement, Annsofi Lundin/ANSO Min stora sorg is responsible, and the performance is directed by Västerbottensteatern's artistic leader Johanna Salander. WE ARE MAMMALS
