In this workshop, we test what happens when randomness designs characters. What impact do the small and large choices we make have, and who/what becomes the result?
We begin by creating paper figurines together, which will then be developed into hand puppets. It’s an exercise in loosening the reins, compromising, and working with the materials at hand.
Tuva-Lill Eserstam is a fashion and costume designer with a degree from Borås Textile University and The Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Her approach is based on world-building and storytelling, where the worlds and characters that emerge become the very basis for the design process. By exploring the unique traits and peculiarities of the characters, she investigates how it influences the clothes they wear.
Sustainability and accessibility guide her material choices, as she works with reuse whenever possible. In Tuva-Lill’s creation, nothing turns out exactly as she initially intended – instead, the characters and materials are allowed to take control of the final outcome.

-------------------
In the autumn and winter of 2026, Skellefteå Art Gallery will present the art project tactile tracks. Through public, creative workshops and a joint exhibition, we focus on artistic learning, creative processes, and local connection.
The project aims to highlight professional artistry connected to our municipality. Through tactile tracks, we want to build bridges between established artists and the public, giving visitors a unique insight into how a work evolves – from drive and method to finished result.
Each artist leads their own session in the Art Workshop at Sara Culture House:
