Wood-grain painting

24 Nov

Try your hand at wood graining using traditional methods and tools together with Skellefteå Museum’s building conservation specialists.

During the latter half of the 19th century, wood-grained doors, furniture and wall panelling became popular in rural homes in Västerbotten. The painted finishes could imitate lighter woods such as oak and birch or darker varieties such as mahogany. Sometimes the imitations were highly realistic, while at other times they were more imaginative.

During the evening, you will have the chance to try wood graining using traditional distemper techniques, historical methods and tools. All you need is a little imagination!

Free of charge, but registration is required.
