The 10 km Furuögrund hike runs in a scenic environment along the coast. It stretches over hilly terrain with a few short steeper sections.

The nature experiences in and around Byske are largely water-related. There is a large archipelago to discover both from land and from boat. Hike along the coast on the mainland, or on islands, or why not up to the top of a mountain?

Marranäsvältan

Marranäsvaltan - a changing artwork created by nature itself. What happened at this place? Has a meteorite struck down here?

Sör-Degerberget nature reserve

At the top of Sör-Degerberget is a vast area with outcrops, shifting blocks and large cobblestone fields. An easy hike with beautiful views.

Pite-Rönnskär island hiking trail

The hiking trail extends to the back of the island. The path takes about 20 minutes to walk. Bring swimwear for a dip, the sandy bottom is soft against your feet. There is also a barbecue area.

Freedom to roam

The well-known Byskeälven

In the heart of Byske flows the well-known Byskeälven, one of Sweden's best salmon rivers. A little over a mile to the north you will also find Åbyälven, which offers fishing in a peaceful environment. You can explore the rivers and its nature on your own or have a guide show you around.

Salmon fishing in Byske river

Salmon season begins in late May.
– If there’s a strong flow of water, you need to get down to the fish, says Andreas.
The rule of thumb is ‘the deeper the better’ and the whole point of sink-line fishing is to ‘hang’ the fly as close to the salmon as possible.
– You can’t just go with the heaviest that you’ve got and hope for the best. You have to keep check on your gear. If you don’t, you’ll always hit the bottom or worse, hook the salmon wrong. The risk of this happening is particularly high if you sweep the fly quick and deep. Picture keeping the rod high and cast narrow angles.

From Chile to Nicole's Farm in Landfors

Located in an old converted bakery, a few steps away from the Byske River, you'll find Nicole's workshop that I will finally visit. I have said fr a long time that I would visit, but it's rare to have that I'm in her neighbourhood as her home is far out in the woods. More specifically in Landfors, 15 km upstream along the Byske River, and the last kilometer is a gravel road which they shovel themselves during the winter.
