The history of Västerbottensost® takes us all the way back to 1872 when dairywoman Ulrika Eleonora Lindström created the legendary recipe. Legend has it that it was a wooing suitor who disturbed her so that the curdling dragged on and that it is that love story that is the reason why Västerbottensost® was born. Whether this is true or not, we can only say..

But there is no doubt that Västerbottensost® has a long and legendary history. The exhibition in Burträsk gives you an exciting insight into both the history behind Västerbottensost® and the mystery that surrounds the unique taste.
