The time of the monster

Nordanåteatern, Skellefteå
A monstrous performance

Monsters are everywhere. Behind the facades, in the fairy tales and in the dark. Among the world's great leaders and the little kindergarten children. Darkness descends in the salon, never before have so many monsters gathered under one roof. "Monstrets tid" is a newly written comedy show by Olof Wretling, Mattias Fransson and Sven Björklund. Known from Klungan and Mom's new guy.

A monster. Stupid and shaggy, it staggers forward and gurgles incomprehensibly, without aim or meaning. Is it Satan himself who wants to destroy and kill everything beautiful that has ever existed in humanity?

In a contemporary world characterized by threats and uncertainty, monsters seem to be lurking everywhere. Here we meet a well-meaning pancake-frying grandfather who happens to scalp himself with the kitchen towel. Then we have the face painting that derails and turns into a monster when all she wanted was to look like a small, beautiful butterfly. And then he is visited by a giant monster arm that comes in through the bedroom window and smashes the entire wall, cuts the bed, lifts out the bathroom and flattens the husband so that he gets stuck in the monster's hand. Then of course we also have all our other monsters.

All monster issues intertwine in a wild stream of associations, stories and characters. Slowly but surely, all concepts are lifted, fears, horror and laughter become one, and suddenly we are there, in the time of the monster. Or were we there already before?

The time of monsters is a monstrous newly written comedy show that moves freely around all our monsters. From the most childish Pixibok monster to the darkest monster that carries the pure evil of man. This is the comedy trio's first collaboration with director Ada Berger, who last autumn was seen on Umeå's stage with the Riksteaterproduktionen Skapelen. She has also worked with the Umeå local Ögonblicksteatern, and at Dramaten Among other things, she has dramatized and directed the hit shows Liv Strömquist thinks about you! (2014) and Liv Strömquist thinks about herself (2020).
