The Archive of Popular Movements in Västerbotten

Skellefteå

The Archive of Popular Movements, or Archive of Social Movements, in Västerbotten is an archive with the assignment to collect and preserve documents from associations and social movements in the county of Västerbotten.

Our archives and offices are situated in both Umeå and Skellefteå. Altogether we preserve documents, photos, films and other objects from almost 10 000 organisations.

The Archive of Popular Movements holds documents from the traditional social movements in Sweden, i.e. the labor- and trade union movements, the free church, the temperance movements, athletic societies and the cooperative, but also a vast collection of material from the fields of adult education, culture and leisure, environmental organisations, as well as village archives, family- and personal archives.

In Skellefteå you can study our archive material i Forskarrum Nordanå, a hub for local history, building preservation och lectures. Read more here: Forskarrum Nordanå
