Patchwork
Skellefteå
Title: Patchwork
Technique: Mural painting
Location: Wall above H&M, against Sara Kulturhus
Art consultant: Peter Lundström
The work is an abstract mural where different colors and shapes are combined into a patchwork-like whole, with inspiration from fabrics and textiles. Dots in different colors float over the work like a play of colors or a musical loop. I have started from a color scale that I want to be experienced as uplifting and welcoming when one sees the work from a distance, but should also be able to provide a color experience and awaken one's own memories and associations. The title alludes to the inspiration that I have drawn from textile worlds with fabrics and patterns and where the patchwork can become like a memory map over time. I have also wanted to let the softer textiles correspond to the hard stone wall.

In my artistic In my practice I work with painting, but also graphics and textile installations. I often build up my images in layers to abstract landscapes or memory maps, where I mix shapes with inspiration from pattern parts, yarns and threads. I often highlight the typically female materials, the female practices such as sewing and weaving. Practices that have often been overlooked. But not to exalt, but more to make visible and ask questions about past and present, about high and low.
