Archaeology Summer at Hedkammen – Guided Tours

Bureå, Skellefteå

Join a unique tour of one of this summer's most exciting archaeological projects! Every Wednesday in July, the machinery takes a break at Hedkammen – and you’re invited to watch as history is carefully unearthed by hand.

šŸ“ Hedkammen, south of Bureå

Archaeologists Therese, Anna and Olof will guide you through the excavation site, explain the finds, and answer your questions. With a bit of luck, you might even witness an artifact emerge from the ground – something that has been buried for a thousand years.

The tours take place in the middle of an archaeological excavation – the final step before the site is handed over for the construction of the Norrbotniabanan railway. The area contains both ancient settlements and graves – a dream project for archaeologists and a chance for you to get up close to history.

Bring your family or friends – the tour is best suited for adults and older children with an interest in history and archaeology.

Free of charge, no registration required. Welcome!

Getting Here

Hedkammen is located just over 20 kilometers from central Skellefteå. Heading south on the E4, you will pass Bureå. Continue past the entrance to Sjöbotten on the right-hand side, drive for just over another kilometer, and then take the next right turn, where a white street sign with black text and border points toward Burmoran. A few hundred meters further on, you will see the survey area on both sides of the road.
