When the Workers Protested – Klemensnäs in 1932

Skellefteå museum, Skellefteå

On July 5, 1932, the small industrial community of Klemensnäs was struck by a labor conflict that quickly escalated into one of the most talked-about disputes in northern Sweden during the 20th century. What lay behind the protests – and who were the people at the center of events?

In this evening lecture, Maja Östlund, museum guide at Skellefteå Museum, takes us through the story of strikebreakers, government intervention, and collective determination. Drawing on historical documents, eyewitness accounts, and local context, she offers a deeper understanding of both the conflict itself and the social developments that shaped Sweden during the interwar period.

The lecture is aimed at anyone curious about Västerbotten’s history, the roots of the labor movement, and the pivotal moments that have shaped our society.
