Stencil painting in Rismyrliden

Boliden, Skellefteå

Pernilla Lindström and Jessica Lundmark from Skellefteå Museum demonstrate and talk about stencil painting past and present.

Stencil painting enjoyed a boom in Sweden during the 19th century, especially in the northern and western parts of the country. It became a way of decorating walls, and sometimes even floors and ceilings, in homes, often as a cheaper alternative to paper wallpaper.
Today, there is a renewed interest in stencil painting, both as a way to preserve old craft traditions and as a means of creative expression.
