Traditional Crafts at Rismyrliden
Boliden, Skellefteå
Anders Eriksson and Bertil Holmgren will visit Rismyrliden to demonstrate two traditional crafts that were once essential in everyday life.
Rope making is an ancient craft with roots in the Middle Ages and the shipbuilding era. It played a key role in maritime history and evolved from a manual skill into industrial production, but it still survives today as a living tradition, often preserved in historic ropewalks.
One example is Kåge Ropewalk in Västerbotten – a 110-meter-long, single-storey wooden building with an earthen floor, preserved as a part of local heritage.
Anders Eriksson will demonstrate how rope is made and how to tie traditional knots. Bertil Holmgren will showcase wood carving techniques.
