Spring 2026: Fredrik Lindström heads out on tour across Sweden with “The Grand Dialect Show – By and With Fredrik Lindström.”

The immensely acclaimed TV host and language expert Fredrik Lindström is once again hitting the road with his wildly popular stage show. What sets it apart is the uniquely tailored material written for each stop on the tour, crafted by Fredrik and his sidekick, actress Helena Lindegren.

The show dissects questions like: Why do dialects exist? Why do they sound the way they do? And everything in between.

Directed by Emma Peters, the show premiered in Falun in March 2024. Dagens Nyheter called it “the most entertaining lesson of the year,” Aftonbladet gave it four stars, and Falu-Kuriren described Fredrik as “Sweden’s wittiest expert.” On January 23, Fredrik returns to Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå!

Just how many dialects are there in Sweden? Who decides what counts as a language and what’s merely a dialect? Is it pronounced kex or tjex? Do animals have dialects too?

Fredrik Lindström is one of Sweden’s most beloved media personalities and linguistic experts. His critically acclaimed book 100 Swedish Dialects became a national favorite and planted the seed for The Grand Dialect Show. Over the years, he has fielded countless questions about language and dialects—and now, he’s answering many of them in this new production.

- This is the first performance I’ve done about language. I’ve noticed how curious people are about the topic—there are always a thousand questions about why dialects exist, why people speak so differently, and where certain words and expressions come from. Now I finally get to do a public show on this theme, and even tailor it to each location! About a third of the show is specially written to highlight the local dialect, says Fredrik.

In The Grand Dialect Show, the audience gets an entertaining deep dive into Swedish dialects. It’s a humorous, sketch-filled, fact-based performance that not only addresses big questions but also digs into regional quirks. Do people really whine in Västerås? Are Gothenburgers really that cheerful? Why do some people speak more dialect when angry—or during sex? What is Sweden’s most incomprehensible dialect?

Joining Fredrik on stage is actress Helena Lindegren, a dynamic sidekick who helps bring the show to life through song, dance, and playful performance.

- Helena is the perfect sidekick! She can sing, dance, do comedy, and elevates the entire show,” Fredrik says. “She’s also got tons of improvisation experience, which is perfect because every night will be different. And she’s a wizard at mimicking dialects!
