Exhibition: Klara Kristalova
Exhibition hall, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå
The exhibition Habitat, which has grown out of close collaboration with Skellefteå Konsthall, contains a mix of new and older works in different techniques - everything from watercolor, ink and chalk drawing to large and small sculptures that are installed on islands of natural elements from Västerbotten and Roslagen. The surrounding nature, especially the wild and untouched, is not always visible but forms an important part of Kristalova's visual world, where her peculiar figures have a central place.
Klara Kristalova moves between many different mediums and techniques. With inspiration from fables, legends, literature, personal memories, flora and fauna, she creates new, contemporary narratives that are permeated with a darkly humorous undertone. The boundary between humans and other living matter is almost always fluid in Kristalova's art. Her figures often express human emotions such as fear, love, sadness and guilt. The interest in the human experience, Everyday life and the uncertainty surrounding the different stages of life: being born, growing up, living and dying are prominent in Kristalova's artistry.
Klara Kristalova, born in 1967 in Prague, lives and works outside Norrtälje. She is educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm (1988–1993) and is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Kristalova established herself with several exhibitions and public commissions in Sweden before she had an international breakthrough in the early 2000s. Her art has been exhibited in galleries and museums all over the world and has received great attention. In recent years, Klara Kristalova has exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Stockholm and Seoul.
