More about the film:

It highlights both the global depletion of cultivated plants and the risks that follow, while unraveling the story of how biodiversity is crucial for our future food production.

According to the FAO, 75% of all cultivated plants have already disappeared irreversibly. With declining genetic diversity, the world becomes poorer and more vulnerable.

The diversity of seeds is the foundation of our daily food. Nature – through its richness of species – has built a genetic insurance policy against changes. An insurance we are on the verge of losing.

Does the current lack of genetic variation threaten our food production in the climate crisis? Have multinational corporations taken control of our food supply? Biodiversity is shrinking not only in nature but also in our gardens and fields.

The seeds sold today in Sweden for the cultivation of cereals and vegetables are produced almost exclusively in other countries. What does this mean for our preparedness in an uncertain world? What does it mean for our food security? How does a nation survive without its own seed production? Without seeds. Without backup?

FRÖKRIGET tells, with the help of experts, what the situation looks like nationally and globally. The film highlights our vulnerability but also the seed as a miracle. As a prerequisite for future generations’ food supply. As an opportunity to rediscover heritage varieties and develop perennial grains.

A single seed can avert future famines. A single seed can make a difference.
