Democracy starts with you!
The City Library, Skellefteå
Interest in politics is at an all-time high – but engagement is at an all-time low. How is it that we care, yet don't participate?
Democracy developer Philip Bärring talks about a democratic innovation that is spreading across Western Europe – Citizens' Assemblies. A new way to make democracy more inclusive and give more people a voice in decision-making.
Ordinary people, selected by lottery, come together to discuss important social issues and make recommendations to politicians. In this thought-provoking lecture, you will learn how these citizen gatherings can bridge the gap between political interest and real engagement.
The lecture is held in connection with the opening of
the Swedish Parliament's exhibition Democracy Needs You in Skellefteå. City library.
