Artotek is highlighted on Archives Day

The City Library, Skellefteå

The purpose of the art library is to give residents of Skellefteå the opportunity to borrow a selection of graphic sheets from the Skellefteå municipality's art collection, just like you borrow a book. The works are loaned out via Book it, are searchable and can be reserved like any other media in the public catalog.

Skellefteå Konsthall's ambition with Skellefteå Municipality's art collection, which we will care for and display, is to arouse interest in contemporary art and maintain time for reflection on what art can be as it is part of our cultural heritage and history.

In the 1970s, Konstfrämjandet provided around fifty libraries around Sweden with forty graphic sheets for lending. The idea was that everyone, regardless of background, would have access to a quality cultural offering, with the aim that works of art could be available for lending and exchanged between borrowers just like a loan book. The 10 graphic sheets are from the Skellefteå municipality's art collection and show a range from the 1960s. until today with changes in technology and style.
