Skellefteå Winter Classic
Skellefteå
Skellefteå Winter Classic is a fun and inclusive hockey tournament held at Sjungande Dalens IP. It is run by a student-run company from Anderstorpsgymnasiet and aims to create a wonderful folk festival where everyone, regardless of level, can join in and play.
The tournament is played in a 3-on-3 format without goalies, making the games fast-paced and entertaining. Each team consists of a minimum of six players, with three on the ice at a time and three substitutes. The equipment requirements are simple: helmet, skates and stick are a must, while other protection is recommended but not mandatory.
The matches are played in two seven-minute periods, and all teams are guaranteed at least three games in the group stage. The scoring system is classic: two points for a win and one for a draw. To keep the game safe and fun, there are clear rules: goals may only be scored from the opponent's half of the field, and no kicks or shots are allowed above knee height. Permissible and dangerous situations will result in expulsion. The tournament is based on fair play, respect and joy, and the referee's decision is always the final decision.
In addition to the matches themselves, the event offers a lively atmosphere with competitions between rounds and prizes for the best outfit. Local sponsors contribute prizes, which makes it extra fun to participate even off the ice. The group stage will be held on February 21st and followed by the finals on February 22nd. With a registration fee of SEK 1,750 per team, which is only about a hundred kronor per person, the Skellefteå Winter Classic is an easily accessible, fast-paced and really enjoyable winter event for both players and spectators. There will also be music, food, hot drinks and fun and fast-paced hockey.
