WALLSTREET Festival

This summer, Skellefteå will transform into a vibrant open-air art gallery as the WALLSTREET Festival arrives in the city. Between June and August 2025, both residents and visitors are invited to explore, experience, and take part in a unique art initiative focusing on public space creativity.

WALLSTREET, which previously made a splash in Nacka, aims to create 1,000 public artworks across Sweden. We are proud to be part of this national initiative and look forward to seeing both permanent and temporary artworks enriching Skellefteå’s public spaces.

Sara Forsström

Hello there, Sara Forsström – painter, sculptor, and installation artist based in Västerbotten. You’re exhibiting a painting under the Viktoria Bridge in Skellefteå as part of the Wallstreet Festival.

What’s your creative process like?
– I usually start with an actual place I’ve visited. Often, I take a photograph that becomes the starting point for a painting.

Ebba Bohlin

Hello there, Ebba Ebba Bohlin. During the Wallstreet Festival, your work *Digital Dreams – Wood Anemone Leaves in Patinated and Waxed Bronze* is on display on the lawn outside Sara Kulturhus.

Who are you as an artist?
– I see art as a cornerstone in the construction of society, and I filter the times through my own person in the hope of touching people straight in the heart.

Shirly Holmberg

Hi there, Shirly Holmberg – architect and artist based in Skellefteå. You’re showing three works during Wallstreet Festival, located outside Sara Kulturhus, facing Trädgårdsgatan in downtown Skellefteå.

How would you describe your art?
– Somewhere between architecture and art. There’s always a landscape in what I create, and I often return to the connection between the body and the landscape.

Andreas Kauppi

Hello there, Andreas Kauppi – based and working in Stockholm. During Wallstreet Festival, your works will be exhibited in one of the containers along Konstens Väg, right in the center of Skellefteå.

What’s your creative process like?
– I often start with a vague idea, a feeling, a material, or an impulse. My approach is experimental, where the process is just as important as the result. For me, art is about exploration rather than perfection.

Jacob Dahlgren

Hello there, Jacob Dahlgren, who is presenting the sculpture Early One Morning, currently on display at Mannhemsgatan 2. Jacob is also leading a workshop titled The Flag Project, an art initiative focused on abstraction, in collaboration with Norrhammarskolan, Edelvik Folk High School, and the School of Culture in Skellefteå.

Who are you as an artist?
– For me, it is important to create an identity and a sense of recognition where art includes both place and people. Many of my works revolve around interaction, and my public artworks have functioned both as sculptures and as objects for play and rest.

Christina Västerbo

Hi, Christina Västerbo – artist from Umeå, contributing a mural painting along Kanalgatan in Skellefteå during Wallstreet Festival.

How do you create your works?
– I build up images layer by layer into abstract landscapes or memory maps, mixing patterns, abstract shapes, and inspiration from fabric pieces, threads, and stitching.

Alexandra Boman

Hi, Alexandra Boman – artist from Skelleftehamn. You're exhibiting in one of the containers along Konstens Väg in central Skellefteå during Wallstreet Festival.

Who are you as an artist?
– I often explore tensions between humanity, society, and nature – and how those forces leave imprints on land and people.

Aleksandra Paranchenko & Ann-Marie Bäckström

Hello, Aleksandra Paranchenko – born and raised in Ukraine, now living in Rusksele – and Ann-Marie Bäckström from Örträsk. You're exhibiting together in one of the containers along Konstens Väg during Wallstreet Festival.

How will you collaborate?
– Our creative process for this project will mostly develop on site. We want to capture the essence of spontaneity – shaped by the materials, the space, and the people we meet.

Aleksandra Paranchenko

Hello there, Aleksandra Paranchenko – born and raised in Ukraine, now living in Rusksele.

Biggest challenge in your artistic work?
– Finding a balance between inner emotion and external expectations. In a constantly changing world, staying true to your style and vision is key.

Anna Kristensen

Hello there, Anna Kristensen—artist, curator, and consultant based in Umeå—who is contributing with 15 paintings displayed throughout Skellefteå, from Nordanå to the E4 highway. The paintings are loosely connected to the books of Torgny Lindgren.

What has your artistic process looked like in this case?
– I’ve always wanted to create cover art for a novel by Torgny Lindgren. I even wrote to him about it once. In response, I received a letter that made me very happy—and I still have it. I see this project as a chance to paint fictional covers for some of his books, placed throughout Skellefteå—the city of storytellers.

Gustav Östlund

Hello, Gustav Östlund, who is exhibiting the crocheted piece *Älg’n Roland* in the display window of Café på bit. The work is a fusion of country, place, and locale. The moose symbolizes Sweden, the black line and yellow background evoke Skellefteå, and the pixelated style reflects the essence of Café på bit.

What has been the most challenging part this time?
– Mainly the time aspect. On previous works, I’ve sometimes worked for up to three years—this time, it was three months. You can tell by the size, but not by the quality!

Marc Strömberg

Hello, Marc Strömberg, artist from Umeå, who is contributing with the paintings Watermelon Dino and Berry Dino on Trädgårdsgatan in central Skellefteå.

What does your artistic process look like?
I usually draw directly onto the surface, without sketching. I follow the flow of the motif, adjusting colors and lines based on what I’ve already created. That’s one of the most enjoyable parts of creating—to be fully in the moment and not switch off my mind to follow pre-drawn sketches.

Akay & Olabo

Hello, Akay & Olabo, the artist duo presenting the monumental street painting Bubble Trouble on Hörnellgatan in central Skellefteå.

How would you describe yourselves?
– We work with graffiti, sculptural objects, text, and actions. We create in nature and in public spaces, where the things we see or find become opportunities to make something new.

Johan Lindström

Hello there, Johan Lindström – artist, illustrator, and animator from Skellefteå. He is participating with the piece *A Moment in the In-Between*, a series of images displayed at bus shelters at the Skellefteå bus station.

Who are you as an artist?
– The human being has always been a central subject in my work. My images often convey a sense of calm or contemplation – a pause in motion – and a curiosity about which bodies are visible in public spaces, and in what contexts.

Pär Axelsson

Hello there, Pär Axelsson, ceramicist based in Robertsfors, participating with *Öar/Islands*, a work in glazed stoneware.
The piece can be seen at Tjärhovsgatan 13.

What challenges have you faced in this context?
– A site-specific piece, especially outdoors and on an existing building, requires adaptation. Questions around mounting, durability, etc., must be resolved early on. There have been quite a few factors to relate to and adapt to, which has been challenging.

AV4

Hello there, artist collective AV4, who are exhibiting the piece Glänta in close proximity to Bonnstan.

Who are you?
– We are an artist group consisting of four artists who work together on public artworks. The group includes Camilla Caster (glass art), Ida Hansson (performance and film), Stina Lundin (painting), and Gunilla Åsberg (drawing and sculpture/installation).
