BEA SZENFELD - HAUTE PAPIER

Exhibition hall, Sara kulturhus, Skellefteå

This summer, Skellefteå Konsthall is delighted to showcase paper art by Bea Szenfeld in the exhibition hall at Sara Kulturhus. Blurring the boundaries between art, crafts, and design, Bea creates groundbreaking works that are easily recognizable for their creative expression and skilled craftsmanship.

Bea Szenfeld's signature is paper, and she creates art by transforming challenging raw materials into seemingly feather-light folded paper. Her imaginative clothes made of white paper, as well as visions and sculptures, have been worn over the years by a variety of artists such as Björk, Lady Gaga, and former Minister of Culture Alice Bah Kuhnke.

The exhibition, opening in June, will feature fourteen of her sculptural works, which can also be worn, where every small piece of paper is carefully thought out and utilized. In August, the exhibition will be augmented with her powerful work "Station 5," which deals with carrying the grief of a lost child, sixty paper babies created over several years with scholarship support from the Swedish Church.

In August, her first major art installation, "At Least We Have Dogs," will also be showcased. The works in the exhibition are constructed from large quantities of shaped paper and kilometers of sewing with thin thread.
