100 years at Nordanå

You're warmly invited to celebrate 100 years of Nordanå with us at the museum.
At the open-air museum near the historic Nyborg Major’s Residence, there will be something for the whole family: lectures, guided tours, open houses in some of the older buildings, and plenty of activities for children. All events are free of charge.
NOTE! The lectures will be held in Swedish.

 
Guided Tours – Skellefteå Museum:
10:30–11:00 | Exhibition Tour: Among These Many Things
Join curators Jenny Tingvall and Anja Axelsen Sundqvist for a guided tour of the museum’s latest exhibition about collections and collecting. Held on the second floor of the museum building.

11:15–11:45 | Tour of Samskolan
Museum host Maja Östlund guides visitors through the historic school building, now home to Skellefteå Museum, and shares its story. The tour begins on the second floor at the Among These Many Things exhibition and ends at Nyborg.

Activities at Nordanå
12:00 | Opening Speech by Mikke Ejrevi
The museum’s Director, Mikke Ejrevi, opens the celebration with a speech at Nyborg. In case of rain, the speech will take place inside Hallen.

12:15–12:45 | Guided Tour of Nyborg
Archivist Jörgen Andersson presents the story of the building that became Skellefteå Museum’s first home in 1925.

13:00–13:30 | Walk Through the Park
Building conservationist Pernilla Lindström leads a guided walk through the Nordanå area, highlighting the architecture and history.

Hands-on fun with educators from Skellefteå Museum and Museum Anna Nordlander, including games, learning, and discovery.

A Bit of History
On November 10, 1882, District Judge Anders Fredrik Ekewall invited the public to a meeting “...to discuss the founding of an antiquities association and the establishment of a museum in the town of Skellefteå, to house artifacts from Västerbotten.” This marked the beginning of what would become Skellefteå Museum and the region’s cultural heritage preservation.

Ekewall had long collected archaeological finds and antiques. After the museum was founded, his collection was housed for many years at Tjärhovsgatan 9. He was instrumental in collecting and displaying the artifacts, but after his death—and after the collection moved to a building at Storgatan—the museum's activities came to a halt.

In the mid-1920s, the city of Skellefteå purchased the Nyborg military residence at Nordanå. In late summer 1925, Skellefteå Museum moved in.
