Skellefteå is currently investing more in its infrastructure, per inhabitant, than any other Swedish city, and is undergoing a major urban transformation. Skellefteå takes the lead in the green transition

An analysis of developments in the municipality shows that 14 000 new jobs can be created by 2030. The single largest contribution is made by the battery manufacturer Northvolt, but it doesn't stop there. Another 2000 jobs are expected to be created in Skellefteå's historically strong mining, forestry and energy industries, with Norra Skog, Boliden and Skellefteå Kraft as some of the leading players.

Severin and the family took the chance to become part of the green industrial revolution

When Severin Hakizimana read in the newspaper about Northvolt's battery factory in Skellefteå, he jumped right in - he wanted to be part of the green industrial revolution in northern Sweden. With the help of the program Relocate, he was matched to the VUX training for automation operator at Campus Skellefteå and six months later he did his first day of work at Northvolt. By then, he, his wife Antoinette Habonimana and their four children had already left Stockholm and moved to the house on Köpmangatan in Burträsk a few months ago.
