Bjuröklubb Nature Reserve

Skellefteå

Bjuröklubb with its nature and history has something to offer most people. Have a coffee at Café Fyren, walk along the paths, jump in the dunes, stay a night in the lighthouse or hike out to the mermaid for a photo session on Sillhällorna.

Bjuröklubb is Västerbotten's easternmost point and is located in a beautiful location by the coast, with the sea in three directions. A place where nature and an interesting cultural history meet. Few places along the northern coast have as many remains from the fishing and seal hunting era as Bjuröklubb. Add to that the time as a pilot and lighthouse, and you have lots of history to delve into.

The lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's residence

Most people who visit Bjuröklubb begin their stay at the characteristic yellow lighthouse from 1859 which adorns the "crowned cliff" and Café Fyren which is run in the historic lighthouse keeper's residence upon Bjuröklubbsberget.

The car can be parked where the asphalt road ends, from here it is just a few minutes by foot to reach the café and lighthouse. For those who need it, there is also possible to drive the car all the way up to the café.

Between the café and the lighthouse, there is a wooden ramp that makes it easy to walk up or roll up with a wheelchair or walker to look out over the open sea and feel the fresh sea breeze. Two well-kept toilets are adjacent to the café.

Jungfruhamnsgraven

During the 13th and 14th centuries, Jungfruhamn was a port that was probably used for fishing and seal hunting, but in the middle of the 17th century, it became unusable due to land uplift. There are many indications that the fishing village was moved when the harbor became too shallow. The new location was next to the place where the chapel is today.

Adjacent to Jungfruhamn is the Jungfruhamnsgraven, which is an exciting ancient monument. Jungfruhamnsgraven consists of a stone wall. Maybe it was once upon a time a courtyard wall, that is, a wall that surrounded a chapel from Catholic times - the time before the 16th century. It may also have been a temporary cemetery.

Sillhällorna

From Jungfruhamnsgraven, the path continues towards the kilometer-long rock slab Sillhällorna, which for many has become synonymous with the mermaid statue. The slabs and their delicious formations form a unique landscape that has become popular with photographers.

Västerbotten's longest sea sand beach, Storsand
In the southern part of the nature reserve is Västerbotten's longest sea sand beach, Storsand, which has become an appreciated and well-visited beach.
